making plant babies

the african violet has propogated, and she needs to be divided and re-potted.  actually, i'm pretty sure most of our houseplants need to be re-potted, except the 'grandma plant' and the orchid.  i'll add that to the long list of horticultural escapades i plan to engage in.

i've decided to see if our climbing ficus and our christmas cactus will grow babies.  i broke a piece off the ficus accidently while cutting away dead growth.  so i put it into a little cup with a bit of water.  then, i remembered how my uncle had given me a baby from my grandmother's christmas cactus in the first place: he grew it from a cutting off the original plant.  since my christmas cacus is growing like crazy, i cut 12 pieces off and put them into 6 (matching, of course) shot glasses with a little water.  we shall see what happens...

i have to start planning the veggie garden in the back.  eric wants it in the empty area next to the roses.  i wasn't sure if you should mix the two, but after a quick bit of research, it seems to actually be a mutually beneficial arrangement if you're not looking for a neat, sculpted, victorian garden.

now to figure out the beds on the sides of the yard.  they definitely need some work.
