flood day

today isn't another snow day, its a flood day.  the passaic river isn't even cresting until this afternoon.  crazy shit. 

i warned my kids to stay out of the flood water before they left yesterday.  i explained how dangerous walking through even shallow flood water can be, especially if its moving.  hopefully they listened. 

cell phone photos of the passaic river as of yesterday around 1:30 pm.  the river level has risen since these were taken, and continues to rise.

i was waiting in the line of cars to get out of the kennedy parking lot after we were let out early, watching the passaic river rushing, almost overtaking the foot bridge, when i saw a tree.  yes.  a tree.  it was being dragged down the river by the force of the water.  i didn't get my phone out to take a picture, i was just so awestruck by the fact that a tree, no mere sapling, was racing downstream like a twig. 

we think we can control nature.  obviously, we are mistaken.
