in my unit plan, i think i have utilized the following literacy principals summarized by larry johannessen.

#1- i utilize this in the journal writing and class discussions.
#2- the basic skills that are included in the unit plan involve taking notes in the journals as they read, as well as recalling these notes as we make character webs in class.
#3- the questions asked in both journal assignments and in class reflect their personal experiences by asking either what they would do, what their opinions are, or, to be specific, what they wanted to do with their lives at 15 and what they want to do now.
#4- the assumed prior knowledge in the unit is that of the double-entry journal. the thinking strategy of combining solid information with personal thoughts and ideas is already in place.
#5- multiple approaches could be journal writing, reading aloud in the classroom, and drawing character illustrations.
#6- the first day of the unit introduces the double-entry journals, as well as involves reading the first two chapters in class.
#7- i include discussion about almost every activity in class.
#8- i make sure i have questions to ask the students, so they can be prepared to answer questions as they read more and more in the novel.
